FCC: “No Issues” with TeleForum
August 3, 2015 by Brian Osborne

On Wednesday Roll Call posted an article titled “Tele-Town Halls Barred Under FCC Ruling.” This article is deeply misleading and has forced the FCC to clarify and Roll Call to backtrack. Let me set the record straight.    There have been no new regulations, no new rule changes, and TeleForums are not “barred” by the FCC.    This article is the unfortunate product of confusing testimony and lazy journalism.   Here’s the FCC’s clarifying statement:   “The Commission’s recent robocall clarifications didn’t impose new restrictions on tele-town halls or Congressional outreach to constituents. Monday through Thursday has proven to be the best days of the week to schedule a teleforum. TeleForums are most successful around 7:00 pm, when families are home, have eaten dinner, and have free time to listen in. Think about other planned activities going on when scheduling your teleforum.  Avoid days where there are large events, such as sporting events, that would lesson participant involvement in a TeleForum. Time TeleForums with pertinent legislation that affects your district or with important events that constituents would like to hear more about. Remind participants throughout the call the prompt to enter the queue and ask a question to ensure …
