Formed in 2008, the Fair Energy Rate Action Fund (FERAF) is a Missouri-based coalition whose mission it is to keep the state’s electrical rates fair and affordable. Its members are comprised of three diverse consumer protection groups: AARP, Missouri Association for Social Welfare (MASW) and Missouri Rice Research and Merchandising Council. In 2009, FERAF endeavored to oppose an overreach by Ameren UE, Missouri’s largest utility company serving 1.2 million electric and 127,000 gas customers in the eastern, central and southern parts of the state. Action Plan OK is group dedicated to enhancing Oklahoma’s economic, social, and political future through supporting pro-business, investment-oriented, free market legislation designed to positively impact the state’s economic well-being. In 2009 there was tort reform legislation in the Oklahoma House of Representatives supported adamantly by Action Plan OK. There were 20 legislators who were undecided on this important legislation . In January of 2009 the utility company Ameren UE brought a proposal to the Missouri legislature that would overturn an important consumer protection law and allow them to charge customers upfront for the cost of constructing a $6 billion nuclear power plant. The proposal shifted most of the risk away from the company and its investors and placed it on Missouri ratepayers. Ameren UE was putting a substantial effort behind their bill and most thought it would pass both houses of the legislature easily. Running for Columbus City Council is a daunting task for any Republican. Greg Dixon, candidate for Judge in District 21, had just been attacked late in the campaign. Dixon needed to respond quickly and creatively in this non-partisan election. Since Election Day was just days away, the only way to respond effectively was to use an automated phone call. On Tuesday, December 27th, Front Porch Strategies helped pull off an extremely complex and successful TeleForum featuring four top-tier Republican Presidential candidates. The event, sponsored by Personhood USA and several other pro-life groups, reached out to almost 150,000 Iowans just one week prior to the Presidential Caucuses. The TeleForum garnered over 26,000 participants on the telephone, and was heard live on 88 syndicated radio stations across the country.
